A short measurement and sorting routine that prevents surprises at the gate. Start with the route, separate anything that needs special handling, and use photos to replace guesswork.
Start with the exit, not the furniture
Measure the narrowest gate or doorway and compare it with each rigid furniture section. Include handles, fixed arms, and feet. A sectional may separate into manageable pieces, while a table base or stone top may not.
Separate what changes the handling plan
Group cushions, glass, stone, metal, wood, and woven pieces. Tell the hauler about cracked glass, sharp edges, waterlogged cushions, and anchored items before the visit. Keep propane cylinders and chemicals out of the pile.
Make a simple access note
Record the narrowest opening, number of steps, distance to the driveway, and whether the route crosses gravel, lawn, or a slope. Three useful photos are the item, the tightest point, and the loading area.
Pickup-day checklist
- Remove personal items from storage benches.
- Dry wet cushions when practical.
- Unlock gates and move vehicles.
- Keep pets and children away from the route.
